When it comes to decorating, what is your
favourite style?
As a decorator, you learn to appreciate each style for its unique qualities. The subtle sophistication and clean lines of contemporary, the diversity of eclecticism, blending furniture and styles from a mixture of sources and time periods. The natural unrefined elements in the rustic style. The traditional style for its calm, orderly predictability and the casual elegance of the universal appealing country style…
My personal favourite would have to be shabby chic. It’s a soft, relaxed feminine romantic way of decorating that looks comfortable and inviting.
I love the distressed look of antiques, pillows made of vintage barkcloath, vintage linens, chenille bedspreads, vintage chandeliers and anything with roses o it!
Shabby chic is also a general term which can be used to refer to a person who is stylish rather than fashionable, where their style reflects quality as opposed to newness.
Who is your favourite decorating guru?
Tell us why.
Rachel Ashwell is my decorating guru. To her the secret of living well is to surround yourself with beautiful things that are practical and deliciously comfortable. Her thoughts about decorating are that a home can be truly lived in and still be lovely.
A faded, peeling old dresser, a cracked white chandelier, a chipped metal trash can painted with roses are rejects from the junkyard to most, but to her it’s a bounty of riches. She has a gift to make something exclusive out of nothing.
When it comes to service, what do you
believe are your personal strengths?
As with all relationships; trust is VERY important. I keep my clients informed and updated. That way my client knows what to expect.
Having had the experience to work with both the decorator and the client, I understand the pressure to fulfill the client’s demands with a rewarding lifestyle.
I’m pro active and focused, my ability to listen to what my client wants and NEEDS makes it possible for me to put myself into their shoes "as decorator and client" which helps me to understand their desire and urgency for that specific need.
